Class 3 — Complex Terrain
High Constraint · Premium Product

Description
Steep, technical, and heavily constrained terrain where the landscape itself becomes the primary design driver. Every alignment decision is intentional, responding directly to slope, exposure, and natural features.

Typical Characteristics

  • Steep fall-line grades

  • Dense tree cover or exposed rock faces

  • Side-hill and high-exposure slopes

  • Limited or restricted machine access

  • Hand-built or hybrid construction sections

Resort Language
Upper-mountain steeps, ridgelines, and natural technical zones.

What It Means for Building
Slower production timelines, increased risk management, higher craftsmanship, and elevated finish work—resulting in a premium, purpose-built riding experience.

Class 2 — Challenging Terrain
Moderate Constraint · High Design Value

Description

Bridges forgiving landscapes and technical ground, where natural features begin to guide trail alignment and increase design complexity.

Typical Characteristics

  • Mixed, rolling slopes

  • Partial to moderate tree density

  • Embedded rock and root systems

  • Variable soil conditions

  • Intermittent machine access

Resort Language
Mid-mountain forested areas and transitional slopes.

What It Means for Building
Increased shaping time, deeper feature integration, and higher design complexity, resulting in greater character and progression throughout the trail.

Class 1 — Simple Terrain
Low Constraint · High Efficiency

Description
Open, forgiving terrain with minimal natural obstacles. Slopes are moderate and consistent, allowing easy access for machines and construction crews.

Typical Characteristics

  • Wide corridors

  • Consistent grades

  • Minimal rock or root systems

  • Strong drainage potential

  • Excellent machine mobility

Resort Language
Lower mountain benches, meadows, legacy ski runs, or reclaimed service roads.

What It Means for Building
Fast production timelines, predictable shaping, and smooth, clean flow.
